Where does my loyalty lie?

Lately I've had this nagging feeling that I've got it all wrong.  I started my business almost 4 years ago fresh faced. I was ready to serve God and honor Him in all I do. When Kerrie and I started this together, we would  meet together and pray for our business. We would faithfully tithe 10% of our earnings, so that someone else could benefit from the blessings God has given our business.

Then Kerrie moved, and I no longer had that accountability. I was building my business on my own, and watching God at work, from a comfortable distance.

Sure, I still thank Him with each order I see. And  I tell people all the time how much God has blessed Gathered & Sown. But is HE still a part of what I am doing? Not really. I somehow found myself working harder than I used to, getting frustrated more than I had before and not appreciating my business for all that it is. I am in a place where I'm not sure what to do next. I am feeling overwhelmed with my blessings.

And why is that? Because...

I forgot that God is the pilot.  And that I, as an inexperienced pilot, stupidly grabbed the controls from His hands and tried to fly the business by myself.

Which brings me to now. With His endless patience and mercy, God has shown me where I am falling short. He is showing me that things will be so much easier if I allow HIM to be in control. And I'm in a place where I'm simply asking Him "How do I do it?" It seems I've forgotten how to let God be in control.

I've decided that I'm going to start this new year intentionally seeking Gods will for my business and my life. I'm not sure what that looks like yet, but I know that " .... God is able to bless me abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that I need, I will abound in every good work...." ( taken from 2 Corinthians 9:8)

He also promises me that He..." is able to do immeasurably more than all I ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within me..."
(adapted from Ephesians 3:20)

I invite you all to join me. If you are feeling like you struggle with allowing God to take control, I'm with you. But I know that with a little faith, and a lot of trust, God will get me to where HE wants me to be, which is far better than where I think I need to go.

  1. I too am struggling with letting God be in control. My 92 year old mother-in-law moved in with us 3 years ago today. She has medical issues and last June she had a stroke and is now confined to a wheelchair. I find that I am becoming a very resentful person as staying at home all the time is not how I planned to spend my retirement. I have one child and 1 grandchild and they moved 3 states away 4 years ago. Prior to their move I saw them everyday as my granddaughter was with me everyday before and after school. She is now a freshman in high school and I feel like I am missing so much of their lives and can't see them as often as I like. Since someone has to be with his Mom at all times we can't go to a movie, out to dinner or just go out for a simple cup of coffee. We get almost no help from his brother and sister and we can't afford to pay someone to come and have a date night too. She refuses to pay someone to come sit with her to watch TV as she puts it. It is just so frustrating. I do know that this is all a part of God's plan for my life and that he is teaching me something. My life text is Isaiah 40:31 and I quote if quite often as I wait upon God.
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as an Eagle. They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
So every day I ask God to teach me to wait as i try to conquer my resentment and I know that with God as my pilot He will take care of all my worries and resentments.

    1. Shirley, this verse popped into my head as I read your beautiful comment...its a reassuring promise God makes to each of us....“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten"
      Joel 2:24
God knows what we face, even when we feel like He's forgotten, but He promises to give us more than we've lost. How awesome is HE????

  3. God has faithfully be showing me that distractions have been keeping me from chosing the "one thing" paul pressed on toward, the "one thing" Mary chose, the "one thing" David asked...to be in the presence of God. It's been amazing to know the GOD OF THE UNIVERSE comes after his sheep...even is we are just slightly off path- he makes sure to gently lead us. You're a blessing!
